| dc.description.abstract | In this presentation, lecturer Ludmila Corghenci wants to share her knowledge, contribution in formation of capacities and attitudes in professional deontology, one of the important subjects for specialists in library and information sciences.
Within each profession there are specific moral issues, but for those whose profession’ subject is the human being, occupational deontology is of the most importance.
The library, indifferent of its size or type, has permanent relationship with an external environment - users and non-users, partners and volunteers, members of community etc., and the internal one - personnel, managers. Connections, behavior, attitudes, procedures, recommendations are all considered. Accordingly, the library needs a reference point, a set of rules to substantiate its goals, service and product system, its implications for a proactive, balanced, responsible and reliable positioning. Such a reference point is the professional deontology.
This is why it is necessary to approach, learn and deal insistently with the problems of professional deontology and deontological education of the specialized library staff. It goes about the importance of “organic fusion”, integration of professional and deontological skills, which will bring more values to the institution and its staff. Librarians become “the trusted members” of the community, ensuring a proper attitude on the part of the community towards the institution they represent.
In her presentation Ludmila Corghenci will emphasize the following axes:
• Correlation between ethics and deontology of the librarian
• Principles of deontology, especially in application to activity of the librarian
• Legislative and regulatory provisions regarding professional deontology
