Preserving and enhancing the printed documentary heritage has an important role to play in increasing the quality of life of citizens and developing communities by contributing to the development of a climate of multicultural and religious tolerance, the transfer of knowledge and the widening of access to culture.
The Republic of Moldova, as a signatory to the Association Agreement with the European Union, can enrich the collective cultural memory with a valuable cultural and scientific heritage, offered to users everywhere, in a coherent way, in accordance with European norms.
Given the fact that through all the initiatives taken at European level, for the preservation and capitalization of the cultural heritage, the creation of digital content is encouraged, the libraries of the Republic of Moldova went on the method of digitization, this becoming one of the key activities. Also, the role of libraries is becoming increasingly important, which includes, among the fundamental objectives - the digitization of documents (especially heritage), in order to provide access to the digital content created and to preserve valuable documents.
Moreover, in the situation created by the pandemic generated by COVID 19, the digitization activity, digital resources and offering access to the values of the written cultural heritage acquire a new dimension and magnitude, they are more necessary than ever.
In her presentation Diana Silivestru will emphasize the following axes:
• Terminology issues: various approaches and interpretations
• Legal and regulatory framework for a digitization activity
• Theoretical and technical aspects regarding the digitization activity: digital system, tools and technologies, digital content and collections, metadata, interoperability, standards, knowledge organization systems, users and usability
• Digitization trends at national level
